Why Not Help Each Other Out?: My View

Hi everyone!

This post is extremely last minute and sort of random to what my blog is about, but I felt the need to write freely about this topic. I think about it all of the time, and I always think of ways to try to fix it! Let me know what you think; if you agree or disagree, or if you have any ideas on how to help this situation. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this way!?

Anywho, I am a HUGE advocate for supporting people who are trying to follow their dreams. I always said that if I ever got famous, I would do anything that I can to help as many people possible follow their dreams(yes, you may quote me on that!).

I see so many people trying to brand themselves and just focusing on themselves and getting their name out. Of course, that's what everyone wants to do, but why not do it with each other? Isn't the best way to grow a brand by getting the word out? And what better way to get the word out than to help each other reach different areas.

I know everybody has scrolled down their Facebook feed and seen a status that says "Please vote for me on so and so website, it would mean a lot!". Out of hundreds of "friends" on Facebook that will see that post, why do only less than half vote? It will take a minute out of your time to help someone who's working hard, achieve their dream.

Of course not everyone is guilty of this, so to those of you not guilty, thank you.

Networking. My favorite word. Networking is meeting and connecting with different people. There aren't many people around my age who are trying to build a job for themselves(entrepreneurship). So why not help those entrepreneurs who don't have a well known brand name, yet. All brands start from somewhere and from someone. It's all about giving someone a chance.

I'm hoping there's some way we can all just help each other out.

Hello Ladies!

I personally think that one should dress up for the holidays and look they're best. Thanksgiving is only a few days away so I decided to put together 2 outfits to give you an idea of what to wear if you plan on dressing up. Whether you are attending a family dinner or going out to celebrate with friends, I would suggest a comfortable pair of heels. I have always been a platform pump type of girl but the low heel trend took over my shoe collection. I am wearing the same pair on both outfits and love how they complete the chic look. The open toe heel may not be such a good idea if you plan on being out so a pair of tights and pumps would also work with any outfit, other than pants of course.

Outfit number one will most likely be the one I will be selecting for our family dinner. Wearing a sweater tucked under a sequined skirt tones down the glitziness while still looking chic. Layering a statement necklace over a plain sweater adds interest to any look so I added one with holographic stones to complement my skirt. I finished off my look with a clutch than can be worn over the shoulder in black to bring out the darker tones in the skirt.

A dress that gives off the illusion of being a top and a skirt is a great go to piece for those days that you just don't know what to wear (which is exactly why I decided to style this dress for Thanksgiving). I have seen this particular style at stores like Dillard's and Agaci in different prints, colors and fabrics. The  one I am wearing has the cheetah print on the bottom half which I can style many ways by adding a pop of color in either my shoes or bag. I decided to keep my accessories black and gold for a more sophisticated look.

I hope you enjoyed both outfits and I hope you have a great Thanksgiving day!

Guest Blogger of the Week- Sparkle and Shine

Hi everybody!

Time for another post from the guest blogger of the week! This post comes from Jamie at http://jkstyle.com/blog/ . Go check her out, her looks are gorgeous!

With holiday parties and festive activities on the horizon, nothing says celebration like some sparkle!
Now I could wear sequins year-round, but are you a little hesitant? If you haven't been a sequin and shine girl in the past, you can definitely try it out! Here are a few tricks to incorporate some shine into your wardrobe:
If you're new to sparkles, don't be afraid to start small and work your way up! Accessories are a great place to start!
Maybe a shoe with some shine?

Or a bag with some sparkle:

Want to take a casual outfit up a few notches?

Ready for the next level? A fabric with sheen or metallic thread is a nice transition if your goal is to be comfortable with some sparkle. This gorgeous skirt makes a subtle statement.

One of my go-to looks for every day is a blazer, top and jeans. This sequined tee really adds something special.

Maybe you're not a sparkle novice. If you're really feeling the shine, this is definitely the time of year to go for it!  This skirt paired with a plain black tee is the ultimate in cool.

Wow them at your office party with this dress. You decide the level of shine by choosing either more muted accessories or take it to the extreme!

Whatever your preference, don't be afraid to shine this year!

Guest Blogger of the Week- OOTD: Patterned Pants

Hey everyone!

I'm going to be starting a new series called Guest Blogger of the Week(GBOW)! Each Sunday(I know it's Wednesday today but this is the only exception!) you will get to see fashion in a different eye. I thought it was a good way to bring diversity to my blog so I'm gathering/accepting e-mails about it!

This week is a post from Catherine from www.m4rch.com.

cardigan: F21 // pants: local shop (similar here)// booties: Charlotte Russe

bag: vintage Coach

So there was a change of scenery
for my OOTD photos. :)

I drive past this neighborhood in Brooklyn all the time, and the other day
as we drove past this block, I just had to stop take a closer look.

Brooklyn, NY

The scene behind me looks straight out of a comic book!

There are other blocks with buildings covered in art, different ones,
much more intricate and dark in form, which I didn't get the chance to shoot
because we had plans elsewhere.

Next time I'm around the area I'll make it my business
to stop and snap away!

The Fashion Industry: My Story

Hey everybody!

Sorry I haven't posted in a little over a week. It was my 21st birthday(finally!) so I did some celebrating with friends and family!

Today I wanted to write about how I fell in love with fashion, and how I squeezed my way in the industry. Hopefully this story will help clear some of your minds about what you want to do with your future!

Growing up I have always loved clothes. I have pictures from when I was little acting like a glam queen! I should've been on True Life: I'm Addicted to Shopping (just kidding, I wasn't THAT bad...I think). I always had a full closet of clothes yet always felt that I had nothing to wear. The longest part of getting ready for me is picking out an outfit, and I have to change it at LEAST three times before I walk out that door!

My whole family is full of entrepreneurs and I always knew I wanted to run a business of my own. When I was a junior in high school, we had to fill out a survey to see what our best match would be as a career. Mine came up as a "Retail Buyer". Back then, I had no idea what that was. So I went home and asked my mom, and she told me she used to want to be a retail buyer! As she explained what the job description was, I was blown away. You can get paid to shop for a company? What!? Right then and there I applied to multiple fashion schools. FIT, FIDM, Academy of Art University, and so on. I was accepted to all of them! I was so happy, until I told my parents. They sat me down and explained to me how I need to go to school for business, and how important it is to have a degree in something more general. Bummer.

Of course as a 16 year old, I got so upset at my parents because they wouldn't let me go to fashion school. But being the supportive parents they are, they had me talk to their friend who was a retail buyer for Nordstrom and a few other stores. She told me that most companies would hire a person with a business degree over a fashion degree in a heartbeat. And that is the advice from every retail buyer I have talked to since then. Now, I couldn't be more thankful that my parents knew the path I needed to go.

As I'm attending school for business management, it just wasn't enough. I needed to do something with fashion ASAP. I knew I wasn't happy just learning business, and unfortunately my school had no fashion courses. I needed to find a way to start my career without having a degree in hand yet.

I was driving in the car with my old boyfriend, and he was talking about online stores, and selling t-shirts online. I couldn't even explain how fast that light bulb went off in my head. I just thought to myself, "I know exactly how to become a retail buyer without experience, or a degree". I decided to open an online store and sell clothing from different designers! I couldn't be more excited to start this project.

I became an LLC that next month and I worked day and night on a business plan, on social media, and everything else associated with starting a brand. It took me about 9 months to open because no one would give me a loan to buy my starting inventory. I went everywhere possible and told them my business plan, and asked to sit down with someone. Finally, I went to a credit union, and this was the start to something new.

Once they approved me for my loan, I immediately bought the clothes I had picked out, did the photo shoot, and opened up the next month! I have so much fun with my website because it's all reflected on me and my style; young contemporary.

I knew I needed to get some experience to learn more about fashion, and I needed to learn more on how to run a retail business. Then I got the phone call of a lifetime. It was my cousin, who's best friend is a designer for Michael Kors. I was so excited that she sat down with me over coffee and explained what I needed to do to get into the industry. She mentioned an internship being a great way to gain knowledge!

My school, being a business school, was no help in finding me an internship in fashion, so I decided to take this matter into my own hands. I e-mailed HR of Michael Kors and asked for an interview for an internship.

Here I am on my way to their corporate office in Manhattan! Skipping a couple months, I got the spot! Interning for Michael Kors was the biggest inspiration ever. It made me believe that if I work hard enough, I can live my dream. After my internship I wanted a way to talk about fashion without just selling clothes. This is when I really started blogging.

Blogging has helped me get my name out a lot in the fashion industry. It has connected me to many important people that never would've noticed me if it weren't for my go-getter attitude and my passion for fashion on my blog. And that's where I am now. Attending fashion shows, celebrity events, and conferences. None of this would've happened if I hadn't chased what I really wanted.

If you work hard enough, and you love something enough, people will see that. Just like the quote "One honest voice is louder than a crowds". People will see that you're trying very hard to get into the industry which will help you a lot when it comes to impressing the right people. Follow your dreams and don't give up, because I never thought I'd be where I am at my age a few years ago. It's never too late to start doing what you love. The key to getting ahead is getting started. Dreams don't work unless you do!

You will know when you have found your dream career. When you don't think of it as work, and when you actually get excited about it, you know that you should be doing everything you can to make that your career.

I'm always here to answer questions or give advice to anyone who was in the position I was in last year. Don't give up! I hope I inspired some of you to get up and do what you need to do to make a name for yourself.
