Lucky FABB: My Experience

Hello again!

Most of you probably know that I recently attended a conference with Lucky Magazine in NYC last week. It was such an amazing experience and it taught me so much! Here's my story of the few days I spent in NYC...Enjoy!

Here I am getting ready to drive to the city! I tried to dress warm and fashionable because it started to get chilly that day. I'm wearing a trench coat from Zara and a scarf from GAP. I paired it with a pair of dark skinny jeans as well as black patent heels. I was so nervous to go to the city, I had no idea what to expect!

I was so excited to bring along my friends Katie and Carlie. You may know Carlie from carliebeauty.blogspot.com. Walking around Times Square was so refreshing because it brought back memories from this past summer when I lived there! We shopped around, ate a lot of food, and enjoyed some wine with a view! :)

As much as I wanted to stay out late and explore, I knew I had to be up early the next day, so we went back to the hotel and enjoyed some drinks and girl talk!

Waking up was a killer. 5 am felt like it snuck right up on me. Thankfully there was a Starbucks right next door to my hotel!

While enjoying a nice Pumpkin Spice Latte, I was gathering my nerves and emotions and preparing myself for the busy day ahead. After a long session of getting ready and changing outfits, I was finally all set to leave.

This was my outfit for day one of Lucky FABB. Details:
Top- Cheetah Peplum Top from Forever 21
Pants- Maroon/Dark Berry-ish Colored Skinny Jeans from Windsor
Shoes- Black Suede Booties from DSW (Brand: Kelly and Katie)
Jacket- Black Cropped Blazer from Forever 21

Thank you to Carlie for being my hair stylist for the day!

The first day of the conference was amazing. As soon as I got there I received my badge! Sitting in the red comfy chairs gave me the worst anxiety. Waiting for Eva Chen, the editor-in-chief of Lucky Magazine, felt like it took forever. But I was so excited to be able to listen to her and hear what she had to say. The best part is coming! After break, I took a couple of pictures while waiting to hear from the one and only Eva Mendes!

Eva Mendes was such an inspiration to listen to. Her humble and goofy personality kept me so entertained the entire time! The best part was when she took a scarf from a blogger and showed us how to wrap it around her head as a headband(fashionably of course). Her story of struggling with money growing up and working hard to make a life for her and her family was so motivational. It just shows that anybody can do what they dream.

After lunch, the rest of the ladies and I sat down patiently waiting for Kate Bosworth to come out and speak! That's right, Kate Bosworth! She has to be the sweetest woman ever.

Her simple style of men's wardrobe with a ladylike twist is so gorgeous. She is extremely fashion savvy and has a lot of tips to share!

The next day of the conference involved listening to a bunch of different entrepreneurs! I heard from the founders of Wanelo, Birchbox, Warby Parker, and Into the Gloss! Listening to all of their stories, I found a common tip. If you stick with what you love, you will succeed. Don't give up on something just because it doesn't work right away, a lot of successful blogs or businesses take time!

How To Stay Motivated: My Story

Hi everybody!
I wanted to write to inspire today. So I chose the topic of motivation, and how this topic relates to me and what I do. Also, how it relates to all of you and what you do, or may wish to do. Hope you enjoy!

Whenever anyone hears about my clothing line and/or blog, the top question is “How do you stay motivated?” I see a lot of people wanting to follow their dreams but not doing much about it. Just like the famous quote by Bob Burns says, “Don’t talk about it, be about it”; that's what everyone should go by. I wanted to write a post not only to answer the frequently asked question, but also, to help those of you who want to start chasing your dream. Motivation is critical.

Starting with my clothing line: www.jennaleeann.com ; my biggest motivation was my Dad.

So many people doubted me, some even laughed at me when they heard I was starting a business. Some said I’m not ready, some said I don’t know enough. However, my Dad said I’m smart enough, I can learn along the way, and prove everyone wrong. So that’s what I did! In April 2012 I established my first LLC and later that year on December 6th, I launched my first clothing line! Of course writing a 30 page business plan is no walk in the park, but motivational quotes played a big part in keeping me going.

Looking at motivational quotes each day was a daily reminder that hard work pays off.

"Dreams don’t work unless you do." - John C. Maxwell

Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it. -Winston Churchill

Don’t give up on something you think about every day.

If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.

Later on, the perks of being a retail buyer of my own line started coming along. I started going to fashion shows in Manhattan, connecting with many people in the industry, and expanding my knowledge.

Seeing the post it notes of my achievements only helped me to keep creating more goals. After all of this exposure to fashion, I wanted a place to share my knowledge/passion; so I decided to start a blog. This was where it was hard to stay motivated. I was nervous people would laugh at me, or not want to read what I have to say.

Reading all of the nice things people have to say is an amazing feeling. Seeing the thousands of views I was getting on my posts, and finding out that people in 10 different countries were reading my posts made me realize that you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

I have always been the biggest supporter of people following their dreams. I always help in any way that I can. If there’s anything I want my audience to take from this story is that if you work hard enough, and never give up, you have the opportunity to be so happy doing something you truly love. Don’t let anyone discourage you, don’t let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do. You can do anything. I hope to motivate you to all take that risk you were scared to take or have been putting off. The outcome is worth it.

You’re all beautiful, you’re all smart, and you’re all talented. Stay that way, and show off to the world.
